About Mogollon Rim

Mogollon Rim

The Mogollon Rim is an extensive escarpment that stretches approximately 200 miles across the northern Arizona terrain, dropping precipitously to reveal panoramic vistas of the lowland desert below. This rugged terrain forms the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau and is characterized by towering pine forests, deep canyons, and numerous lakes. The Rim is steeped in history, with a rich Native American and pioneer legacy. Today, visitors flock to its numerous recreation areas for hiking, fishing, camping, and wildlife observation. The Rim provides habitat for a variety of species including elk, bald eagles, and the rare Mexican spotted owl. Recreational activities are abundant, with hundreds of miles of trails waiting to be explored, popular fishing spots such as the Black Canyon Lake, and ample opportunities for scenic drives along its forested roads.
